Frequently Asked Questions

What's the history of sash windows in the UK?

Sash windows originated in the UK in the late 17th century. Due to their aesthetic qualities and attractive appearance they continued to increase in popularity throughout the Georgian and Victorian eras.

How long have you been making sash windows for?

We’ve been making sash windows and constantly refining our exquisite design since 2003.

Am I able to hear from any of your past clients?

Of course. In fact we regularly arrange for prospective clients to speak to and often visit the homes of previous clients.

Which platforms have you been reviewed on?

Please take a look at our reviews on Google, Houzz, MyBuilder and Yell.

What are the benefits of double glazing?

There are many benefits of upgrading to double glazing. Your home will be more energy efficient, less vulnerable to external noise and more secure. Furthermore, maintenance will become easier than with single glazed units, due to reduced condensation and less accumulation of dust on the inside of the window.

Are your windows secure?

Our windows have been carefully designed to offer an added degree of security. Take a look at our security page for all the details.

What sort of glass do you use?

As standard we fit our windows with double glazed, krypton gas units. If you live in an area where noise pollution is a particular issue, we give you the option to have your windows fitted with acoustic glass instead.

What type of timber do you use in your windows?

We manufacture all of our windows using only 100% Accoya timber. Accoya is an extremely resilient timber that will effectively lengthen the lifespan of your windows.

What’s the estimated wait time after payment?

The approximate wait time is 10-12 weeks between initial payment and the final installation.

Are your windows guaranteed?

Yes. The Accoya we use in our windows is guaranteed for 50 years against issues of rotting, twisting and warping. Everything else is guaranteed for a 10 year period against issues arising from faulty workmanship or defective materials.

What are the benefits of being registered with FENSA

Being registered with FENSA assured that our windows are made in compliance with building regulations. Furthermore it is an assurance of our competence and quality. Finally, it removes the need for homeowners to request building control approval for their new windows, as FENSA registered companies can self-certify their work.

How can I expect the process to run, step by step, from start to finish?

Who will be installing my sash windows?

Our dedicated team will be responsible for the installation of your new windows. With over 15 years of experience and a commitment to absolute quality, your new windows will be in the hands of industry experts.

After installation will my property be left clean and tidy?

Following installation, your property will be left in the exact same condition we found it in.

What paint do you use?

We spray all of our windows using Sikkens-Rubbol paint. Sikkens-Rubbol is not only excellent at retaining colour, but is ultra-resistant. This reduced vulnerability to cracks and fissures means your new windows will last longer without requiring maintenance.

Do I have a choice of colour I can receive my windows in?

Yes. Due to its resilience we only use Sikkens-Rubbol on the exterior faces of our windows but we can colour match the spray finish to anything you wish, ranging from Dulux to Farrow and Ball. We can also brush-finish the inside face of your windows with any paint of your choosing.

Do you work in conservation areas?

Yes. Historically our windows have always met the approval of conservation officers.

Will my new sash windows still offer ventilation?

Yes. All of our sash windows are fitted with trickle vents to offer control over the amount of air flow in and out of the room.

Do I have to have trickle vents in my new sash windows?

Trickle vents serve a very important purpose and are required by building regulations in all new sash windows. However, in certain circumstances, a pulse test can be performed to allow for no trickle vents. For further information about pulse testing please give us a call.

This will vary from case to case.

Do you offer sash window refurbishment?

No, unfortunately we don’t do refurbishments.
